The entrance of 'Poppins' Coffee and Tea in Koenji, Suginami Ward, conjures up a vivid image of the famous nanny. However, upon entering the shop you will see no further elaboration of the topic. Moreover, the current owner of 'Poppins" is not interested in the character at all. That said, the ambiance of this shop slightly resembles a London tea shop of the early 1920s. Exquisite tea cups and saucers lined up in a gorgeous cupboard, stained glass, old-fashioned interior ... all this creates a cozy and elegant atmosphere for a short rest after strolling in Koenji, and it would be even better if smoking was prohibited. There is only one table for non-smokers, and it is right by the window. As you enter further into 'Poppins', you will find a long table with single seats.
I ordered a cake set (¥750), and the cake of the day was no-bake cheesecake. It was fluffy and subtly delicious. My friend had a breakfast set with a toast, salad, boiled egg, vegetable juice, and an iced coffee, which set her back ¥650.
