The Waka Poetry Garden - Rikugien

A nice garden for a walk in the heart of Tokyo-Rikugien

Joe Peters   - 1 min read

Rikugien is a nice garden for walking the park paths, up the gentle hills, and around the pond while taking in the sights and sounds of this park within the confines of a busy city. Rikugien was created based on the theme of Waka poetry and is a typical example of the gardens of the Edo period. Donated to the city by the family of the Mitsubishi founder, Iwasaki Yataro in 1953, the garden was designated as a special site of exceptional beauty and is an important Japan cultural asset.
