Temple #22 of the Ohenro 88 temple pilgrimage

Temple twenty two in the Shikoku Ohenro pilgrimage is also known as the Temple of Equality. The name derives from the main deity, Yakushi Nyorai, who saves all beings from disease, regardless of age, sex, rank, or race. Legend has it that Kobo Daishi dug a well here with his staff and the milky water that came up had the power to heal, especially those with leg problems. Piles of crutches can be seen along the walkway to the temple, attesting to its curative powers. To get there, catch a JR Mugi line train from Tokushima station and get off at Aratano station. From there it’s about a 30 minute walk.
