Jōroku-ji Temple

An ancient zen temple in Tokushima

Illaura Rossiter   - 1 min read

Jorokuji is said to be the oldest temple in Tokushima Prefecture. The temple was engulfed by war and remnants of the war still remain inside the temple.

However, it is now a famous place for viewing the foliage. In the spring it's a quiet temple surrounded by the vivid green of new growth. The temple is home to a beautiful garden that is normally off limits to visitors. The only chance to see the garden is on November 3rd when it is opened for a special public viewing day.

Not only does this temple have a beautiful garden, but visitors are also allowed admittance into the main hall. You can also relax and enjoy a view of the garden while drinking specially prepared Japanese "matcha", powdered green tea, in the tea room.
