Running for over a decade now, the Nakano Ekimae Bon Odori Festival was started with the intent of allowing people to enjoy vibrant local songs and dances. The event shakes things up a little, though, and incorporates some modern J-Pop songs with the same choreography as traditional bon dances have.
The fusion of tradition and modernity has certainly proven popular over recent years, with approximately 50,000 attendees present at the two-day event in 2022.
There is no entry fee to enjoy the festival, but there are typically booths present selling food and drink – bring yen if you plan on making a purchase.
Getting there
The Nakano Ekimae Bon Odori Festival takes place at Nakano Central Park and Nakano Shiki no Mori Park. Both venues can be accessed in around 5 minutes on foot from Nakano Station, which is served by the Chuo Line, the Sobu Main Line, and the Tozai Line.
