When we see on the TV news that this morning glory market and festival is in full swing, all Japanese feel that summer has really come! Morning glories bloom in early July, and so the festival is held from July 6-8 at Iriya, near Ueno. The market was originally started near Iriya Kishibojin (Shingen-ji Temple), and it is part of the temple festival. Besides 100 flower shops, more than 100 food-stands line the street. I really enjoyed the heat and food of the festival. It opens at a very early 6 AM and closes at 9:30 PM. It is a 1-minute walk from Iriya Station on the Hibiya Subway Line or a 3-minute walk from JR Uguisudani Station.
